The 1861 Project LIVE – The Video

click “play” to view the introduction and first song.

The 1861 Project has come a long way since the initial conception, writing, recording, and release of “Volume 1: From Soldiers to Foot Soldiers.”

One of the most gratifying aspects of the project’s evolution has been the opportunity to perform the material live before a variety of audiences over past year.

Now we have captured that live performance in an easily downloadable in-concert presentation of songs from the CD, augmented with documentary footage and interviews that provide an intriguing look into the project’s creation.

The 1861 Project Live, with its unique mix of music and history, offers something refreshingly new: thought provoking narration by Executive Producer Paul Schatzkin, whose introductions place each song in a compelling  historical context.

The combination of music, interviews, and narration gives the video its own dramatic pace, and brings The 1861 Project ever closer to its original vision as “an historical novel put to music.”

The 1861 Project Live is available as an easy-to-download file for only $5.99, or in combination with the CD and/or CD download via the store widgets below.

This is an awesome video.  My only problem is that after I downloaded the video to my PC with Windows 7, I was unable to copy the file to a DVD disc even though I had no problem viewing the video. The Windows DVD Maker gave me a message: “Cannot create the DVD. One or more of the files that were added in DVD Maker could not be decoded correctly.” I am wondering if something got lost in the download? As of now, I have no way to watch the video other than on my computer…a real bummer! I wish I could have purchased the video on a DVD disc rather than having to download it.

I dunno, Bruce… the file you downloaded is an MPEG4 (H.264) – can Windows handle that format?  We’re all in the Mac world now (I was Windows for years), and the DVD burner in MacOSX burns a DVD just fine.  Can you do some research and let us know what you find out?  Thanks –P

      • Bruce Umminger

Thanks. The Windows DVD Maker is supposed to be able to handle mp4 files according to what I read online, but who knows? All I know is that my PC cannot do it.  I didn’t realize one had to have a Mac for your download to be burned to a disc. Maybe some other PC users can help with this. I sure hope I am the exception.

        • Bruce Umminger

Maybe the download for PCs should be in a WMV format?

Oh, no Bruce, I didn’t mean to suggest that you have to have a Mac to burn the download to a disc.  To be honest, we didn’t even take into acccount that that might be one of the things people would want to do with the download (duh!?).  I was only saying that since none of us has a Windows machine (after ~30 years of digital grief, I purged all things MSFT from my life starting about 4-1/2 yrs ago. It’s still computers, but I don’t miss any of the hassles attendant to the PC world…), we’re not sure what to tell you – but we’d sure like to find out because if you want to burn a disk there may well be others who would like to do the same.

Have you tried rebooting? That always seemed to solve myriad issues when I was using Winders…

I’ll try to do a little more research on the subject, but please let us know if you find a solution so that we an share it with others.

          Thanks, –PS

It’s no big deal. The only reason I wanted to burn it to a disc was so I could watch in on my TV with a DVD player…bigger screen. And also so my wife could watch it without having to use my computer. But it’s still a great show, and that’s the important thing…and at such a reasonable price. Thank you for making it available!

Also, as to selling the video on a DVD… we’ve looked into that but the authoring and replication gets pretty pricey, so we thought we’d try this approach first.

Paul….I’m not a “downloading guy”.  I’d love to just purchase a CD or DVD of everyhthing you’ve GOT (or plan on producing)!  How do I do THAT?
